"Setting up an Electronic Document Management (EDM) project solely to comply with e-invoicing can be a bad idea for a number of reasons. If the sole objective is to comply with e-invoicing, this can result in a cost disproportionate to the real benefits of EDM for the business. Many organizations continue to work with files on file servers, resulting in management, security and productivity problems. By comparison, EDM offers many advantages, handling any type of document and improving operational efficiency (enabling much more precise searches, for example). Focusing solely on electronic invoicing can lead to neglecting the longer-term opportunities that EDM can bring to the business.
