City of Nanterre: A successful transition to GoFAST

The city of Nanterre, wishing to free itself from its dependence on Microsoft tools, called on GoFAST for a gradual transition. With the imminent end of its contract with Microsoft, the city needed to quickly find an alternative capable of replacing collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, the file server, and MS-Office. The objective was to guarantee an open-source, OnPremise, and efficient solution, while minimizing disruption to agents.

What were the problems to be solved?

The main issues identified by the city of Nanterre included :

  • Replacing Microsoft Teams with a high-performance collaboration tool featuring web conferencing and chat
  • Migrating Share Windows file server and MS-Office suite to an Open Source solution
  • Ensuring data sovereignty with a dedicated, secure OnPremise platform.
  • Find a service provider experienced in migration from Microsoft tools.
  • End of Microsoft contract imminent: With the Microsoft contract coming to an end, the city had to move quickly to a new collaborative solution to avoid any interruption in service.

Project scope, by phase

Department responsible for the project: Infrastructure and Digital Services Department

Phase 1 Installation of GoFAST Community: Even before the start of a project, the city of Nanterre tested the free, open-source version of GoFAST in June 2022, enabling its functionality to be evaluated in real-life conditions.

Phase 2 Roll-out to the whole of Nanterre: In January 2024, GoFAST Enterprise was deployed on a large scale, covering over 1,000 employees, with the first stage replacing Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

Technical scope :

  • Dedicated platform, hosted OnPremise on the city's infrastructure
  • Maintenance and updates carried out remotely, by CEO-Vision via secure remote administration

Review and follow-up to GoFAST adoption

In less than a month, all agents involved in the project fully adopted GoFAST, with no major disruptions.

The success of the migration is reflected in the absence of any post-migration support requests, demonstrating a smooth transition and rapid acceptance of the new solution.

This project proves that it is possible to move away from dependence on Microsoft while improving internal collaboration and document management.

Nanterre is a French commune in the Hauts-de-Seine department, of which it is the prefecture, in the Île-de-France region.

In 2020, the municipality had a population of 95,782, making it the second most populous in the department after Boulogne-Billancourt.

The City of Nanterre chose GoFAST to replace Teams at short notice. This meant that we had to quickly develop tools for migrating both Teams and stored documents. But above all, it enabled us to see how GoFAST enabled a much more structured organisation than Teams.
